I. Early Magazine Covers is kind of similar to a book cover. It consist of only a title and publication data. There's no way you can tell what's inside the magazine. Some early magazine cover are thought out, by putting some kind of small illustration that have to link to the magazine data. Cover were rare in early magazine, it indicates the content of the magazine. 
II. The Poster Cover have only a picture, along with the title, publication date, and the publisher. Many of the arts on the cover are from several illustrators that are famous for not only for their work but also for what's inside. Many of the poster are big enough to be hang on wall as a poster. Some of the covers illustration have a meaning to it or that it's connected to the magazine information. 
III. Cover line started the "ongoing dialogue" and it draws the viewer attention better than what a cover art could. Designer thought of using models as their cover art, along with their posture or face over the title and all the cover line of the whole magazine. There is two set of cover lines, primary and secondary. The primary have a list of many famous magazine illustrator and the secondary line appears at the bottom of the picture with different type and color. 
IV. Many magazine cover consit of fashion models and celebrities which can be easily advertise for the audience to buy their magazine. Some of them do not have many cover lines, if so, it will be bold graphic with no more than a few lines of titles. Nowadays, cover lines is either covered by models or it's surrounding them.
